Sneak Peak #3 - From Day 3 Of "Faithful Fitness"

Day 3 – Muddy Bricks  (INTEGRITY)

Passage

The immoral man sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

(1 Corinthians 6:18–20)

Meditation

In his first letter to the Corinthian church, Paul admonishes Christians on how they are treating their bodies.

When you are a walking temple for the dwelling of the Most High, bought and paid for by the blood of His Son, Paul says you have a very simple rule to follow daily. “Glorify God in your body.”

This admonishment has radical implications for daily health and fitness when we understand these statements in light of modern nutrition science.

You probably know that when you eat, your body uses energy from your food to function (calories). But did you know that the food you eat is much more than just calories? It turns out that the foods you eat are also the building blocks that your body uses to rebuild itself daily.

In other words, you become what you eat.

The food items you eat today are the bricks your body will use to rebuild and renew the temple of the Holy Spirit. You!

Every day, you have the opportunity to build something better than the day before. It starts with the quality of the bricks you choose.

Choosing nutrient-dense carbs, proteins, and fats (good bricks) to feed yourself will build a better temple for God’s dwelling place than ultra-processed, low-nutrient, food-like substances (muddy bricks).

It’s time to stop using muddy bricks.

When Solomon built the Lord’s temple, every material was carefully chosen to honor the holiness of God’s presence.[1]

You are the dwelling place of God’s Spirit.

Build (feed) yourself accordingly.

Discipline

The discipline of integrity requires that you become intentional about what you are consuming and strive to build yourself into the best temple that you know how to be with what you have. Every time you are about to eat or drink today, pray and ask God whether this is the best you can do right now. There is no shame or guilt in this practice, only the intention to give God your best. The more consistent you are with this choice, the better the temple of your body will be! God deserves your best!

Prayer

Father, I want to glorify You in my body. While I am grateful that You have filled the world with so much awesome food—and tasty ways to prepare it—I want to understand my daily bread on a deeper level. I know that what I eat is not just fuel to be burned but also the building blocks for this body You’ve given me. Your temple. Jesus, teach me to honor God even in what I choose to eat today. Holy Spirit, give me clarity in my daily nutrition to build the best temple I can for You. Heal me of the lies I have accepted about my food, and show me the changes I need to make in this area to glorify You in my body. Please bring others alongside me to encourage and guide my efforts.

In Jesus’s name, amen.
