Author's Journey

As an exercise scientist and faith-based health coach for 20 years, I've watched many believers struggle to connect their physical and spiritual lives. Through my journey as Coach Alex, I've developed Faithful Fitness, a program I wish I had 20 years ago. This Christian fitness path encourages us to treat our bodies as temples, not idols, integrating faith and fitness coaching for a holistic approach.

About The Author

Coach Alex VanHouten

Alex VanHouten, a dedicated exercise scientist and health coach, is the founder of Faithful Fitness and The Betterment Company. With over 20 years of experience in fitness coaching, he has empowered individuals to transform their health through intelligent, science-based training, all while grounding his approach in the hope of the gospel. As the host of the Faithful Fitness Podcast and leader of the Better Daily community, Coach Alex provides valuable tools to help people steward their bodies well for God’s glory.


Beyond his role as a coach, Alex’s greatest calling lies within his family and ministry. Together with his wife, Christin, they serve in their local church, where she leads the children’s ministry, and he disciples men to walk in strength, humility, and stewardship. His passion is to raise up the next generation, starting with his two sons, Gabriel and Bennett, to become godly men who embody faith, grit, and service.


Alex authored Faithful Fitness: A 40-Day Devotional for Christian Health and Stewardship, driven by a desire to redeem the conversation around fitness. Too often, the narrative around health is influenced by vanity or shame. Alex's mission is to reframe health as worship, helping believers view their bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit, and to approach nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle not as burdens but as opportunities to honor God.
